Residents check in for an afternoon on Concorde

Parklands Lodge residents were VIPs for the day when they visited Manchester Runway Park to board the infamous Concorde.

To mark Dementia Action Week Parklands Lodge was joined by former Mayor of Maghull, Councillor June Burns on a guided tour of the supersonic passenger airliner in the runway’s hanger, learning all about its world-renowned history.

Lesley Malone, Group Events Ambassador for Athena Healthcare Group, organised the trip and said: “It was absolutely fantastic to see Concorde in Manchester but to see the faces of our residents throughout the trip was even better!

“Each and every one of them thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I know I can speak on behalf of all of them when I say it was a truly unforgettable trip!”

Friends from Abbey Wood Lodge, Hesketh Park Lodge and Woodlands Lodge also joined the team on the trip.

“What a fabulous home this is! My father has recently moved here from another local care home. He is encouraged to be active, involved and engaged by the Manager and his fantastic team. Visits are a joy as Dad is happy and excited to tell me his news about how he has spent his day. The family kitchen facility means that we can make and drink tea together just as we did when he was at home. I cant praise this service enough- After working for many years in the care home industry I am aware that we all strive to give residents purpose but in my experience, few succeed. Trust me when I say Parklands lodge does what it says on the tin - I cant praise this service enough !”
